Acupuncture

$80 per 60 minutes

Acupuncture is one of the oldest, most commonly used forms of medicine in the world. Originating in China more than 2,500 years ago, acupuncture is currently one of the most thoroughly researched, practiced, and respected forms of complementary medicine available anywhere.

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, your overall health is determined by the quality of the Qi (energy) flow through the natural pathways of your body (meridians). Acupuncture uses a variety of techniques, including placing very thin sterile needles into specific points on the body, to stimulate and improve your Qi flow. The many benefits of acupuncture include:

  • Pain reduction
  • Stress and tension relief
  • Increased energy levels
  • Stronger digestion
  • Relief from bad habits and addictions
  • Greater sense of overall health and well-being

This medical system was developed long before the advent of modern medical diagnostic equipment leading to a majority of modern individuals being confused by the odd language of the TCM texts and its practitioners. Furthermore the TCM texts were translated into English in the 1700s before modern scientific and medical concepts were formalized.  Consider that Ben Franklin's landmark experiments in electricity leading to our modern technological era were only completed around 1750. But with my unique position of having knowledge in both high tech electronics principles and the theories of TCM diagnostics and treatment, I have gained a depth of understanding of TCM that surpasses the knowledge of the average medical acupuncturist or licensed acupuncturist as you will see when you read about my doctoral research proposal.

A licensed acupuncturist with a minimum of a master’s in acupuncture has over 1500 hours of training in Traditional Oriental medical theories with in depth knowledge of TCM diagnostic and treatment protocols, alongside training in western biomedical theories, diagnostics and testing lead to rounded balance of understanding of both eastern and western treatment modalities.  A licensed acupuncturist is therefore a medical specialist in regards to the uses and applications of acupuncture and other TCM treatment modalities similar to an endocrinologist's understanding of the endocrine system or a neurologist understanding of the brain as compared to a general practitioner.

Acupuncture modalities

I am trained in a wide array of acupuncture systems and how to adapt them to different treatment scenarios as needed.

  • Traditional: includes 15 regular meridians, 8 extraordinary meridians, 360 regular acupoints, and an uncounted array of specialty points for specific empirical functions.
  • Five Elements: is a very limited system of acupuncture that includes only the 60 most commonly used acupuncture points.  This is what many chiropractors and medical acupuncturists use.
  • Master Tong’s: is a very different system of acupuncture points and meridians derived from Master Tong's family lineage out of Taiwan.  Many of these points can be used to fine tune and direct an acupuncture treatment for increased effectiveness in especially hard cases.
  • Microsystem: is based on the concept of holism and oddly quantum mechanics where the entirety of the organism is contained within each part of the whole. Common microsystems include ear acupuncture, scalp acupuncture, Korean hand acupuncture, Abdomen acupuncture and foot reflexology.  Ear acupuncture is another system that is commonly used by medical and chiropractic acupuncturists.
  • Dr Tan Balance:  is a complex treatment modality of balancing yin (negative current) and yang (positive current) points to create a strong shift of current through the meridians in order to effect change.
  • Esoteric: there are many esoteric systems that are derived from ancient shamanic practices.  Many of these esoteric "ghost" points are highly effective in the treatment of psychosocial disorders. While other esoteric points tap into quantum mechanics associated functions to resolve particularly difficult issues.
  • Electro acupuncture & Laser acupuncture: are the use of electronic or laser devices to stimulate acupuncture points

Electroacupuncture

Electroacupuncture is a highly effective holistic treatment for pain, nausea, and chronic ailments. In practice, it is actually very similar to traditional acupuncture. Using the exact same system of Chinese Medicine, I insert very thin and sterile needles into specific points along the meridians of your body. I then attach the needles to a device that delivers gentle electrical pulses between two points. This helps restore the healthy flow of Qi (energy) through your body, removing any blockages and clearing out stagnant areas, thus creating a stronger and clearer experience of health and well-being.

Laser Acupuncture

Laser Acupuncture is the latest innovation in the 2,500 year old medical tradition of acupuncture. It uses low-energy laser beams — instead of traditional acupuncture needles — on specific points of your body to unblock and restore the healthy flow of Qi (energy) through your meridians. This treatment is completely painless, and just as effective as a traditional acupuncture session.

The many benefits of laser acupuncture include:

  • Pain reduction
  • Stress and tension relief
  • Increased energy levels
  • Stronger digestion
  • Relief from bad habits and addictions
  • Greater sense of overall health and well-being

Pulse Diagnosis

One of the most common questions that patients ask about Chinese Medicine is: "Why does my practitioner check my pulse?" Pulse diagnosis is actually one of the most complex and important diagnostic techniques we use in Chinese Medicine. Through feeling and evaluating your pulse, I obtain an accurate diagnosis of your overall constitution, Qi (energy) flow, and internal organ health, among other things. I then synthesize all of this information into a highly effective and individualized treatment plan for your specific needs.

Chinese Herbology

Chinese herbal medicine is a 2,000 year old tradition using naturally occurring substances — including herbs — to enhance one's health and vitality. As opposed to Western medicine, the foundation of this approach is to support the body's natural self-healing mechanisms and abilities.

Since each patient has different needs, I carefully select and combine a variety of herbs that will synergistically blend together to achieve optimal results for your unique situation. I prescribe high-quality, professional-grade herbal medicines that are available only to qualified licensed professionals.

Tui Na

Tui Na is an ancient form of bodywork that is based on the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine. I use a variety of pressures and strokes along the meridians (energy pathways) of your body to both relax your muscles and also stimulate the flow of energy throughout your body. By treating both the physical (musculature) and energetic (Qi) levels of your body at the same time, I can achieve results far beyond what you’d receive from a conventional massage therapy session.

Acupressure

Acupressure is based on one the most ancient principles of healing — that simply touching a specific point on the body will release stress and improve health in the body. In an acupressure session, I apply firm pressure directly to these "points" on your body, which relieves your muscle tension and improves your circulation. This simple and powerful technique has been shown to very effective in treating headaches, backaches, and even insomnia.

Cupping

Cupping has been a part of Chinese Medicine for over 2,500 years. It relieves aches and pains, improves circulation, and also helps with respiratory and digestive issues. I simply place a specialized "cup" onto specific points on your body, and then use suction to draw your skin up into the cups. It doesn't hurt — it simply draws fresh blood to that area of your body, which facilitates the cleansing and strengthening of your Qi (energy). The end result is a greater overall sense of health and well-being.

Gua Sha

Although Gua Sha is an ancient healing technique used by Chinese Medicine practitioners for thousands of years, it is relatively unknown in the West. It is recognized throughout Asia as a highly effective treatment for chronic pain conditions, stress, fatigue, and a host of other ailments.

First, Gua Sha oil is applied to a specific meridian (energy pathway) on your body. I then use a smooth round-edged object (such as a spoon) to apply short brisk strokes to that area. This creates red patches of skin (called "Sha"), detoxifying your blood and restoring the healthy flow if Qi (energy) to the area. There is no pain involved, and the Sha will fade in 2 to 3 days. But the sense of health and vitality you experience from it will last much longer.

Nutrition

$80 per 60 minutes

Through my medical studies and my personal interested I have been studying nutrition for over 20 years which lead to my desire to enter the field of holistic medicine and provide quality patient care.   My nutrition knowledge spans a wide array of topics from standard RDA nutritional advice, Chinese nutrition theories, and modern research into genetics on the impact of specific foods inciting inflammatory and autoimmune conditions.  This has helped resolve my numerous autoimmune problems as well as provided resolutions for many of my clients.   I have also studied the role of nutrition on the brain in the case of neurological disorders and have successfully worked with 3 different epileptic patients with a ketogenic (high fat diet) to control their symptoms.  I have also successfully addressed ADD/ADHD, bipolar, Parkinson's, and other neurological issues with vitamins, supplements and herbs.  I am familiar with the issues of veganism, vegetarianism, high carb, low carb, paleo, blood type and many other niche diets.  I also learned a great deal on the latest herbal and supplement products and their effectiveness as a sales clerk selling herbs, supplements and vitamin products.

ALCAT Testing

The Alcat Test is a lab based immune stimulation test in which a patient's WBC's are challenged with various substances including foods, additives, colorings, chemicals, medicinal herbs, functional foods, molds and pharmaceutical compounds. The patient's unique set of responses help to identify substances that may trigger potentially harmful immune system reactions. This information is used to clear up many many otherwise unresolved health issues.
